The Freezing Bubble Video

This isn’t in the show, but last winter, when it got very, very cold, I went out and froze up some bubbles. You can actually see the liquid in this bubble start slowing down until it stops and freezes. Then watch the freezing spread until—pop! And it’s a rather remarkable slo-mo pop at that. Watch the little bubble flake drift slowly toward the waiting snow on the deck. You might not believe it, but that small fragment stayed aloft in the breeze a good 20 seconds in real time. Impressive aerodynamics for a bubble.

If you’re on an actual computer or a retina-screen tablet, be sure to click the fullscreen button in the lower righthand corner. (The black bar on the right is no doubt the result of my entry-level Adobe Premiere skills. Sorry. It goes away as the picture zooms in.)
